2009 National Membership Meeting
Scholarship Application

due September 15th

SisterSong will award scholarships for our National Membership Meeting based on the following criteria:

  1. Scholarships/grants will only be awarded to SisterSong members in good standing (2009 membership dues paid).
  2. Scholarship/grant recipients will be required to fill out an application and demonstrate how they plan to integrate information from the meeting into their work on women of color and reproductive justice.
  3. Scholarship recipients will be required to use the scholarship for the purposes intended (i.e. – recipients must attend the meeting on the days for which they received the scholarship).
  4. Scholarship/grant recipients will be required to submit a written post-event report of their participation in the event and assessment of how it will contribute to their work in the Reproductive Justice field.

Scholarships will be awarded for travel or lodging costs, exceptions will be made only with prior authorization of the National Coordinator or the Deputy Coordinator.

We have several different scholarship pools, including:

Mother-Daughter Scholarships – SisterSong will be offering scholarships for mother and daughter team participants! If you are a paid meeting participant and you would like to bring your mother, daughter, grandmother, granddaughter, niece, etc, you may apply for a travel and/or lodging scholarship for her.

Young Women’s Scholarships – In an effort to encourage intergenerational dialogue, we are targeting outreach and scholarships at young women and girls of color between the ages of 13 and 30.

Indigenous Sisters Scholarships – In recognition of the specific historical experience and multiplicity of barriers (geographic, economic) that have traditionally prevented their participation in such events, we will also do targeted outreach and have created a special pool of scholarships for our Native American/Indigenous sisters.

Scholarships for Women with Disabilities – We want to encourage the participation of our sisters with disabilities. In order to facilitate this participation, we have also developed a pool of scholarships for women of color with disabilities.

General Scholarship Pool – We believe strongly that all who wish to attend the meeting should be able to do so, regardless of age, income, or any other factors may create barriers. If you are a member in good standing and do not fit into any of the above scholarship pools, you may still apply for a scholarship.

Unfortunately, SisterSong is unable to provide scholarships to those living outside of the U.S.; however, the best possibility for funding for international participants is to contact the Global Fund for Women http://www.globalfundforwomen.org/cms/ . They do not make grants to groups in the United States, but they have in the past made grants to enable women from outside the U.S. to participate in our 2003 conference.

If you have any questions about scholarships, please contact Laura Jiménez, Deputy Coordinator at 404-756-2680 or click here to contact through email.

ALL TRAVEL AND LODGING SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS WILL BE ASKED TO PAY REGISTRATION FEES FOR THE NATIONAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING.
