Women of Color Scholarship Fund
At SisterSong, we are dedicated to serving women of color, working class communities, immigrant communities, and young women and students. We recognize that these marginalized communities face many barriers to equal access, so we are committed to ensuring that all of our events are accessible and affordable by offering travel and lodging scholarships for as many SisterSong events as possible to those in need. For example:
- In 2004, SisterSong provided $25,000 in travel and lodging scholarships to bring women and girls of color to Washington, DC to attend the 2004 March for Women's Lives.
- SisterSong provided $20,000 in scholarships each year for our 2005 and 2006 National Membership Meetings.
- In 2007, SisterSong provided $100,000 in scholarships for approximately 300 women and girls of color to attend our Let's Talk About Sex! National Conference in Chicago.
"(The SisterSong Conference) created an atmosphere that allowed girls/youth/women to begin a long overdue intergenerational public dialogue about our experiences, while presenting successful models that can be replicated in our communities."
