Mama Nasrah

Sacred remembrance of Mama Nasrah:

In Memory of Mama Nasrah "One who helps and assists"

The birth community has lost one of our beloved grand midwives, but we have all gained a sweet and powerful ancestor in Mama Nasrah. Her work was a gift to us and in equal measure, so was her presence, her smile, and her light. She carried peace in her smile, a playfulness and warmth - as if it had tucked within it the secret of how to see and hold the world with the innocence of a child’s heart.

Thank you, Mama Nasrah for your service. May your continued journey be as sweet, buoyant, and peaceful as your presence was in this life. May all whom you touched learn how to hold the people in our lives and the world around us with such intentional care.

Mama Nasrah was an elder midwife in Georgia. She practiced for over 45 years, servicing families in rural and urban areas of Georgia. Her commitment to lowering the Maternal and Infant mortality rates and learning ways to improve birth outcomes for families inspired many. She left a tremendous impact. Mama Nasrah helped to bring visibility to Midwifery and legitimize the work as an important tradition. She also helped more of us better realize the history of midwifery.

Mama Nasrah’s supported legislation for the certification of Community Midwives regardless of the path they entered the work from. She was a leader in recognizing the value of this added layer of protection for the broad community of birthworkers. At SisterSong, we are honored to have been able to know and work with her in our birth justice program and in our community.

BIRTH JUSTICE CARE FUND Services: Full Spectrum Doula and Birth Doula
D'vine Femi9 Doula Services

My name is Kiyana. I am a Mother of two Earth-side children and one Spirit-side child. All have blessed my life beyond words. I equally pay homage to my ancestors and those that will come after.

I love all things nature & all things natural. I am a plant-based vegan with an extensive background in meditation and medical sciences. I choose to nurture and empower Mothers to trust their highest intuition in pregnancy, birth, and beyond. My experiences range from home births to hospital births to free/unassisted births. My style is very personable, open, and raw. I incorporate a variety of tools depending on the Mother's needs; breath-work, deep states of meditation practice, crystals, incense, affirmations, hikes, stretch, prayer, you name it! I believe in supporting a Mother's mind, body, and Spirit, as those are her inherent, most powerful tools.

My goal is when birth comes around, the Mother already knows her power. Birth simply becomes a rights-of-passage. As the Doula, I simply become familiar healing balm.

I am delighted to align with Mamas-to-be and excited for the blessings that come with the process. Please feel free to reach out and connect :)

Inspiring T.L Beauty

Embarking on the path of Doula work is not just a profession for me—it's an intrinsic connection to the realms of spirit, holistic care, and transformative change.

My initiation into Doula work was birthed from the profound experience of bringing my third child into the world in 2018. Prior to this, advocacy was already etched into my essence—I stood as a voice for my community, a fierce supporter of those in need. However, it was during my own birthing journey that I sensed a profound void, an invisibility in the presence of medical professionals. This moment ignited a fire within me, propelling me to seek a compassionate approach, a holistic sanctuary for mothers during this crucial juncture.

In this exploration, I found that my advocacy seamlessly aligned with the principles of Doula care. Fueled by determination, I pursued certification to solidify my commitment to showing up for mothers and their families. My motivation is grounded in being a catalyst for change, a tireless advocate for Black mothers, ensuring they are not just heard, but authentically seen and valued.

My approach is a sacred dance, deeply personal and attuned to the unique individual I am privileged to serve. Prenatal visits transcend formality—they are a profound exchange where I learn about the mother, her circumstances, and her unique journey. It's a collaboration—a sacred gathering where I share knowledge, provide guidance, and become an integral part of their village.

In alignment with my philosophy, I treat each client as a unique being, offering unwavering emotional support and a wealth of information from reputable holistic sources. While physical presence may vary, being fully present emotionally is where the transformative impact begins.

Bianca Hamilton (she/hers/her)
Leesburg, GA

BIRTH JUSTICE CARE FUND SERVICES: Birth Doula/Full Spectrum Doula

Souls in Singchrony Music Therapy & Doula Services

Bianca has worked as a Board-Certified Music Therapist for 9 years in a variety of settings and is also a certified holistic birth doula by Birth Arts International. During the pandemic, Bianca became inspired to train as a Music Therapy-assisted Childbirth practitioner as well as a doula in order to be more well-informed during the birth of her second child. After delivering her first child in rural South Dakota and experiencing a pregnancy during the pandemic, she wanted to feel more empowered to achieve a healing, unmedicated birth despite experiencing a high-risk pregnancy. She knew self-advocacy would be important in order to avoid potential complications of giving birth in the hospital setting as a Black woman who was also high-risk and wanted to make sure her voice felt heard. Bianca desires to empower other mothers to feel heard, seen, and can self-advocate. Her mission is to fight for the birthing experience every mother so rightfully deserves.

Throughout the pandemic, Bianca has supported mothers both virtually and in-person to birth with power and justice. In 2021, she launched her business, Souls in Singchrony: Music Therapy & Doula Services and during that time, also served as a volunteer doula with the Joy in Birthing Foundation in 2022. She has worked for Postpartum Support International on the helpline and currently volunteers as a group facilitator for the PSI Black Moms Connect group. She currently works as Music Therapist within the SOWEGA community and serves as Project Coordinator for the Frontline Doulas Hotline, a non-profit that runs a doula hotline for women of the African Diaspora where she has led projects promoting self-care support for Black doulas and families. At this time, she is near completion of a master's in social work degree with hopes to prioritize initiatives related to Reproductive justice, Perinatal mental health, and improving maternal-infant health outcomes for families of Southwest Georgia.

I’m Brittany Zania, and my journey to becoming a doula began after my own experience with pregnancy and childbirth. Amina's Birth Wisdom

Peace my name is Neriyah.

I am a Doula because Spirit told me to be. It was while grieving my daughter that TMH spoke to me and said to be the change I wished to see. Be a doula. I said a what?? Lol that started my journey to discovering an important reason for being on this earth. Each birth Ive experienced taught me something new that I wish to share with you. From my first induced birth, second spontaneous but medicated birth, third spontaneous non medicated hands off quick birth that the doctor had no time to prepare and witness, fourth emergency csestion which ended in her passing because it was too early and I didn't know how to advocate for myself nor did I have support all the way to my 5th home birth with a midwife and 3 doulas! Each birth was TOTALLY different & necessary for me to know how to help my mothers have a spiritually guided, peaceful birth no matter the outcome, because a birth that u feel empowered by, will put a smile on your face no matter how long ago it was. Knowing u did your best, with good support is top tier.

YOUnity Birthwork

Younity Birthwork was created from the pure passion and education of Sylvester Pierce. His passion was ignited from the birth of his seven nephews, with the privilege of witnessing two being born and assisting with one. While supporting his sister cope with a miscarriage, he realized the need of maternal care within the community. Thus, he began his birthwork journey in 2015. He sought out the counsel of local doulas and midwives and was blessed with the knowledge of their gifted hands, hearts and experiences.

In 2023 he graduated from Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies’ Building Perinatal Support Professional program, and obtained his first doula certification with Earth Mama Naturals. His second doula certification came in 2024 under Innerlight Holistic Doula, where he is continuing his year long initiation and year(s) long mentoring under Mama Shaconna Haley. He is currently studying for his Community Breastfeeding Specialist with Ready Set Push! and Lactation Education Resources.

His organization, Younity Birthwork, centers the mother’s decisions and emotions, advocates for positive reproductive health and justice, and supports the entire family from pre-conception to postpartum.

Pure Intentions Maternal Services

Greetings! My name is Phylicia Price. I am a fruitful mother of four. My love for maternal health flowed in as a little girl watching the women in my family assist other women in their pregnancy journey, labors and deliveries. At that time, it was what I was used to. I thought we all helped mothers. My love for the space grew and never left me even as I went on to do other things throughout life. One day I decided to follow my heart and began my education in maternal health with badoula trainings. I attended numerous other educational spaces and eventually graduated from Morehouse College. Advocating & assisting families in my community while working beside other beautiful souls is an unexplainable love. Helping families is a honor and I'm grateful to assist the ones that are called to me.

I pride myself on being down to earth and meeting people where they are...

As a single mom of 4 kids, I understand the importance of having a non judgemental support system to lean on during your most vulnerable times especially pregnancy and postpartum. Each of my pregnancies was different and somewhat difficult in their own ways. Navigating co-parenting,breastfeeding, trying to make ends meet and all the things was A LOT to handle I want to be the person that makes it easier for YOU. Our services is not one size fits all but we show up for you in the ways you need us to in that moment. Period.

Think of us as your go to person during your pregnancy and postpartum journey. We got you, sis!
